Not included: The Muir Woods entrance fee, $15 per person aged 16 and over, paid directly at the park. Children under 16 enter free. If you have an America the Beautiful pass or a Muir Woods annual pass, it covers the holder plus up to three accompanying adults, so bring it with you. Also not included: the ferry back from Sausalito, about $8.50, if you choose to stay there, and food and drink.

A small van instead of a big coach. You don’t have to arrange a park reservation, find parking, or drive the mountain road yourself. Three hours in total, so the rest of your day stays yours.
